What's this website all about?
At it's core it is merely a place for me track my long term sports wagering results, good or bad. However, over the years I have noticed that wagering has skewed my perspective on sports to the point that it is now unique and compelling. This blog aids me in getting my voice heard.
Where do you place your bets at?
I place all of my action at the offshore sportsbooks listed here. Every book I use is financially secure and will pay if you win fair and square. I have nothing against bookies, but I'd prefer to avoid meeting unsavory characters in dark alleys for the purpose of exchanging five figure sums if at all possible.
Isn't sports betting illegal?
Probably, but I have NEVER heard of someone getting arrested simply for placing a wager. I am certainly not publishing this blog from Cook County jail, but if you are worried about it then I suggest checking with a lawyer.
Do I need to pay taxes on my winnings?
Yes, if you win over the long run then you should report that income. I pay taxes on my yearly winnings even though I could easily hide the money if I so chose simply because the last thing I want is to become a millionaire in my early 30's only to be spending the following 5-10 years behind bars for tax evasion while my wife shares what's rightfully mine with the pool guy. 99% of you have nothing to worry about though because you aren't going to be long term winners at sports wagering anyways. So relax.
My (brother, uncle, aunt, father) lost his/her (house, car, family) over gambling on (sports, poker, slot machines)? Gambling is clearly evil. How can you promote such a thing?
First you'll first need to point me to the place on this site where I actually encourage others to gamble. I am pretty sure it does not exist. Secondly, I truly am sorry if your friend or family member couldn't control their gambling habit, but if every smart and talented person in this world stopped doing all of the things that dumb and ungifted people fail at, well, we'd have a lot more line cooks and telecoms salesman and a lot fewer brain surgeons and professional athletes.
Where'd you learn how to gamble?
For the first five years that I gambled I was as bad as you and your buddy at work. One day I finally got fed up with the losing and actively sought out ways to imrpove. After that I got lucky and found a couple of really good mentors, one in particular, who all think the same way that I do, and they were able to accelerate my developement as a wagerer ten fold. This is why I am willing to help out others who truly are looking to improve.
What parlay do you recommend for this weekend?
Parlays are for casual gamblers, drunk frat guys, and total retards. If you ever see me post a parlay on this blog then I have gone completely off the reservation.
I told you that team was going to lose, how the hell could you bet on them anyways?
I can count on one hand without using my thumb the number of people that can actually influence my opinion on a potential wager, and you are most certainly not one of them. I mean, there is a 98% chance I am smarting than you overall and a 100% chance that I know more about wagering than you, so why on Earth would I value your opinion? Because you watched College Gameday last weekend? No Thanks.
Wow, you only went 2-4 today, what happened?
This genre of comment always cracks me up. I have literally thanked gods that I don't believe in after a few particularly dicey 2-4 days. If you think one losing day is some great tragedy then you clearly haven't been around very long. I lose all of the time over the short run. In fact it wouldn't shock me if at some point I lost money over the course of an entire calendar year. It's called variance. Ultimately though I win in the long run, and I win at something that 99% of people lose at. So Fuck Off.
What system do you use when making your picks?
I don't have a system and if I did, it certainly wouldn't be in my best long run interests to share it with the general public.
If your picks are so special then why are they free?
My picks are not special. They are a recipe for heart failure. I make enough money between my real world job and my wagering that I don't need to beg bad gamblers to purchase my selections. I actually consulted for a sports service for about a week once, and let me tell you it was a fucking joke.
What statistics should I analyze when evaluating potential bets?
I am not a statistical genius therefore I don't spend hours pulling my hair out over sports stats. I study them to get a general feel for teams relative strengths and weaknesses and that's about it. At the end of the day the odds makers have access to all the same stats as everyone else, and you can bet your ass that they are better at interpreting this information than you or I.
What do you consider to be good, long term wagering results?
I consider breaking even after juice to be an accomplishment in itself. If you enjoy gambling and aren't losing money at it then what's the problem? However, for me to justify my considerable monetary and time investment in sports wagering I need to at least best what I could get from a mutual fund (about 15-20% annually). Ultimately though I am looking for 50-80% yearly returns. To get there I need to hit about 55% of my wagers (excluding MLB), which for someone like me is very attainable.
What's your advice for beginners?
Find another hobby that doesn't involve constant stress, disappointment, and frustration. Since you won't listen to that, please don't consider wagering to be a legitimate second source of income, at least not right away. Most of you will never be long term winners and even if you are, it won't happen right away.
